Meet Mark A. Moran, M.D., M.S.

MoranDr. Mark A. Moran is a diplomat of the American Board of Anesthesiology with a subspecialty certification in Pain Management. He completed his post-doctorate Fellowship in Pain Medicine from Penn State University Milton S. Hershey Medical Center and is very excited to return home to his native San Antonio.

Dr. Moran completed his undergraduate work from Southwestern University in Georgetown, TX. He earned his medical degree from the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. With training focused on a multidisciplinary approach to pain relief, he strongly believes in using physical therapy, exercise, and total health maintenance to help patients minimize pain by maximizing health. Dr. Moran is a member of several professional organizations including the American Academy of Pain Medicine, the North American Spine Society, Texas Medical Association, Bexar County Medical Society, and the International Spine Intervention Society.

His medical interests include mechanical back pain, neuropathic pain, and vertebral compression fractures among many others. Dr. Moran is also part of the research efforts at Consultants in Pain Research (CPR). Established in 2003, CPR specializes in studies that have to do with Chronic Pain and is actively enrolling for multiple studies at any given time. Besides work he enjoys spending time with his wife and two children. His personal interests include basketball, running, history, and military aviation.

Meet Irene Coronado, FNP

IreneCoronadoPrior to joining Consultants in Pain Medicine, Nurse Practitioner* Irene Coronado worked on the Bone Marrow Transplant Unit at Wilford Hall Medical Center as a Transplant Coordinator for the Department of Defense. In conjunction with BAMC and Audie L. Murphy Memorial Veterans Hospital, she organized and taught classes to new nursing staff and other support personnel. Irene conducted bone marrow drives to assist with increasing the number of potential donors and assisted with research studies which resulted in several published works. She has worked in oncology and critical care and has over 20 years of nursing experience.

Irene received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree from the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio School of Nursing in 1990 and her Master of Science in Nursing with honors in 2006. She is certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center as a Family Nurse Practitioner. She is trained to perform trigger point injections, joint, and bursa injections.

She joined Consultants in Pain Medicine in 2006, working for Dr. Donald Bacon prior to joining Dr. Mark Moran. Irene has two wonderful children and enjoys spending time with her family.


 *A nurse practitioner (NP) is a registered nurse (RN) who has completed advanced education (a minimum of a master's degree) and training in the diagnosis and management of common medical conditions, including chronic illnesses. Nurse Practitioners provide high-quality specialty health care services similar to those of a physician. An NP conducts physical exams, diagnosis and treats illnesses, orders and interprets tests, counsels on preventive health care, assists in surgery, and writes prescriptions. Working closely with Dr. Moran, FNP Coronado will provide you with top quality health care.

Meet J Carter Outlaw, DC

A native of the Texas hill country, Dr. Carter Outlaw is the second of five children and spent most of his childhood either at church or playing and attending sports activities including swimming, cross country, football, baseball, and soccer. He graduated from Smithson Valley High School in Spring Branch and Parker College of Chiropractic in Dallas, where in 2001, he received his Bachelors in Anatomy and his Doctorate in Chiropractic.

Dr. Outlaw couldn't wait to get back to the San Antonio area and begin serving the community that he grew up in. He chose to specialize in the rehabilitation of spinal disc injuries and sports injuries. Nothing brings him joy more than helping people return to their normal activities whether that be standing, walking, and performing the everyday tasks that most of us take for granted or helping athletes achieve their goals of returning to their sport following injury or simply performing at a higher level. Dr. Outlaw has specialized training in Non-surgical Spinal Decompression, sports rehabilitation, soft tissue mobilization, kinesiology taping, and multiple Chiropractic techniques for adjusting both the spine and extremities.

During his free time, Dr. Outlaw enjoys spending time with his friends and family. He loves to spend most of his time outdoors, hiking, camping, hunting and fishing. You may also catch him supporting our beloved San Antonio Spurs as well as the Smithson Valley Rangers. He and his wife are members of St. Joseph Honey Creek and enjoy supporting their local community through volunteering their time at their church as well as other civic organizations.
